Sam Abell Wow's Photographers and Non-photographers Alike
It was standing room only in the Hall of One Hundred Rivers at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden on March 15 when, in conjunction with Evelyn Nodwell's exhibit "Guizhou China, In the Season of New Rice", National Geographic photographer and teacher Sam Abell gave an inspiring talk on the power of photographic images.
Here are two examples of the enthusiastic e-mails that flooded in after the event:
"I attended a talk yesterday at the Garden, given by Sam Abell, a National Geographic photographer .... his presentation was fabulous ... very informative , instructional and entertaining ... after which, he did a kind and constructive critique of Evelyn's photos on display at the gallery .... a very brave thing for Evelyn to be willing to take part in.... but in the end she had nothing to fear, as her images were so well done that listening to Sam Abell's critique only helped those of us listening understand why Evelyn's images are so strong. The presentation room was packed, tea was served. I usually have to pay many dollars to attend this kind of presentation."
"That was a fantastic event. First of all, I think your photographs are truly beautiful, and it was so exciting to see such a fantastic turnout for your show and presentation. And then Sam Abell was so inspiring. What a great speaker, teacher and storyteller. I learned so much about how to look at a photograph, and how to take a better photograph. It was a great afternoon... I was really happy I came, as well as invigorated and inspired."
